Strahan is the epicentre of West Coast Tasmania tourism — the departure point for the Gordon River, the gateway to the Franklin wilderness, and the most visited town on this coast. The restaurants, the history, the harbour, the cruises — it's all here.

Florence Olivia is at 3 Harold Street, right in the middle of town. Walk out the front door and the Gordon River cruise terminal is 100 metres away. The harbour foreshore is 50 metres. Risby Cove restaurant, the visitor centre, the pub, the supermarket — all within a two-minute walk. There is nowhere in Strahan that is more central than this.

Florence Olivia has stood on this corner since the early 1900's — through the timber era, the tourism boom, and everything in between. The ornate verandah railings, the stepped parapet, the pressed tin ceiling — all original. We restored it and left the character alone.

What we added: proper beds, good linen, a kitchen that actually works, and bathrooms with enough hot water. The rest of the 1900's is doing what it's always done.

Walk out the front door of 3 Harold Street and everything Strahan offers is immediately in front of you. The Gordon River cruise terminal — 100m. The harbour foreshore and boardwalk — 50m. Dinner at Risby Cove — 3 minutes on foot. The West Coast Wilderness Railway — 5 minutes. The supermarket, the pub, the visitor centre — all within easy reach without getting in a car.

Cradle Mountain is three hours north. Queenstown is 45 minutes east. The Henty Dunes are 20 minutes south. Florence Olivia is your base for all of it.
